The gorgeous October weather made for a perfect backdrop for Dina and Philip's breathtaking New York City wedding.  Their wedding style was a mix of contemporary design and classical elegance and New York's University Club was the perfect Block1choice as their wedding venue.  With the help of wedding planner, JoAnn Gregoli and her team at Elegant Occasions, the bride and groom created a romantic and elegant ambiance with some unique and original touches that made the evening truly memorable.

The ceremony focal point was a lavish foral and tulle chuppah highlighted by extraordinary lighting and equisite glass vases with floating flowers and candles lining the aisle.  A solo pianist created the warm and inviting ceremony music.  The processional was the classic "Air on the G String" by Bach, the bride chose to walk down the aisle to "Halleluiah" by Rufus Wainwright and the recessional was the Beatles' "All You Need Is Love".    A testament to their eclectic musical taste.

The bride and groom chose to dance their first dance to Billy Joel's "She's Got A Way About Her" which was beautifully choreographed down to the final dip  The guests burst into applause and then began to dance a full on hora! Mazel Tov to the bride and groom! In addition to the stunning decor, Dina and Philip added some gorgeous elements including the simply elegant menu cards and the magnificent cream and ivory colored florals.

As we all already know, the entertainment is one of the most crucial elements when planning your wedding.  Let's face it, you plan and plan and that night your wedding is turned over to the entertainment who will "make" or "break" the party.  It's a tremendous resposibility on the part of the entertainment company you choose and a huge decision in your wedding planning process.

Here are some of the most common mistakes brides make when booking a band for thier wedding:

1.  You and your fiancee see a band in a bar and think they will be "GREAT" to play at your wedding.  Ok, wait a minute - stop right there.  Yes, it is true there are some very good bands playing in clubs or restaurants but playing at a wedding is a totally different story.  A wedding band MUST be versatile - remember you will have guests in all different age ranges with all different musical tastes. Will you be able to have your music customized?  The band should have a very broad range and be able to change styles on a dime. Most club bands are generally contemporary or rock based and do not have the range to perform at a four hour event without alienating some of your guests.  Some other important questions to ask yourself are:   Who is the bandleader?  Who will be making my annoucements?  Do they seem like they are organized enough to handle the logistics of a wedding?  Do they have professional sound or will they all be lugging their own equipment?  And the biggest question of all....have they ever performed at a wedding before?

2.  You see a band at a "wedding showcase" and think they are fabulous!  Ok. yes, wedding showcases are a great way to see many bands in a short period of time.  Keep in mind, though, that a wedding showcase is a 20 or 30 minute performance that the band has rehearsed over and over again to be pefect and impressive.  This does not necessarily mean that they can perform that well for your entire four hour wedding!  Make sure to get a song list that is fully comprehensive of all the styles of music that they can perform and also ask the same questions as above with regard to the bandleader and announcements.  Also make sure to ask that the band is a "SET UNIT" that performs together all the time and that you are not seeing something that was put together just for the showcase.

3.  You meet with an office that will only show you photos and an audio tape.  Be forewarned.  If any agent refuses to show you a video tape of the band performing together, you should be very cautious about booking.

4.   You book a band based solely on price.  We are all looking for a bargain, it's true.  When dealing with professionals in the wedding industry, who are truly professionals, pricing should be consistent.  If one company is coming in much lower than the rest, you should question it - they are scrimping somewhere.  And again, most professionals will tell you the entertainment is not the place you want to scrimp on your wedding day.  Put a few less roses in the table arrangements and put the money towards the band!

5.  References, references, references!  Ask your band or the agent for the e-mails of brides who have used the band previously.  They should be willing to give you the contact information of at least two previous clients.  Two other great resources for reviews are The Knot.com and WeddingWire.com.  Do the research before signing your name on the dotted line.

Finally, look for a company that can give you the attention that your wedding day deserves.  You don't just want to be another 'number' on your wedding day.  Smaller companies with more personalized service are becoming much more popular and give today's modern, savvy bride and groom what they deserve - the day of their dreams!

When Elysa and Greg began planning their wedding, music was one of the most important elements.  They knew their guest list would be comprised of many of their 20-something friends, along with their parents friends and other family members from Israel and Spain who wanted to hear some authentic ethnic music from those regions.  The music had to encompass all these elements while still creating their vision of a high-energy dance party.  Elysa and Greg put their trust in Veronica Martell to create not only an amazing dance party, but to help create their own personal "wedding soundtrack" that their guests would certainly remember.pages-031.jpeg

A very important element to this soundtrack was the music for their ceremony.  Though it was a traditional Hebrew ceremony, Elysa loved Jason Castro's version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" which was featured on the TV Show "The Bachelor" and wanted to walk down the aisle to this eclectic musical choice. Veronica put together a trio of acoustic guitar, flute and amazing male vocalist, Justyn Matthew, who made the bride's entrance everything she imagined it to be.  The trio also played prelude music of the bride and groom's choosing and the traditional Hebrew send-off of "Simon Tov Mazel Tov" after the groom broke the glass!  It was the perfect fit for all of their musical choices and made their ceremony a unique and customized experience.

Elysa and Greg wanted a party atmosphere once the doors to their dinner reception were opened.  Their first dance, "Hard to Concentrate" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers set the mood for a fun and dynamic party that was filled with surprising musical song choices.

At a traditional Hebrew wedding, once the bride and groom have their first dance, the crowd will join them to celebrate their union with a "Hora" dance.  Elysa and Greg chose an extended hora as many of their family were from Israel and this was a very important part of the evening.  The crowed danced until they were breathless!pages-211

In addition to the hora, the band played some other authentic music from  Israel, Spain and Italy which welcomed the European guests to the dance floor and helped to bring the party together.   Elysa and Greg wanted to keep the energy going all through the event, and their musical choices of Motown, 80's, Classic Rock and Contemporary really packed the dance floor!  The party rocked all night long!

There were poignant moments during the night when Elysa danced with her Grandfather and Greg danced with his Mom, and touching speeches by both sides of the family.  But mostly, Veronica Martell Entertainment had created the elegant ceremony and the dynamic dance party that Elysa and Greg had imagined, highlighted by their wonderful musical choices and special moments that made the night truly memorable.

We used Veronica Martell Entertainment for our wedding and they were AMAZING! Our guests are still raving about the music and how much fun our wedding was.
Leading up to the wedding, Veronica was such a pleasure to work with. She was extremely professional, knowledgeable and accommodating. She really is one of the nicest people we have had the pleasure of working with. She made us feel at ease about the music and she delivered above and beyond our expectations. The band has an extensive repertoire and whatever song they are playing sounds exactly like, if not better than, the actual artist. They had all of our guests up and dancing ALL night long. They truly ROCKED and made it the best party we could have imagined! We HIGHLY recommend using Veronica Martell Entertainment.

Princess Charlene of Monaco made her debut as royal hostess at the 63rd Red Cross Ball at the Sporting Monte-Carlo on Friday August 5, 2011.  It is the first gala event the princess has attended in Monaco since she married the principality's ruler, Prince Albertt II.

The 33-year-old former South African swimmer was dressed in a vibrant fuchsia strapless gown by Akris with a fishtail hem. She wore her blonde hair long but swept back from her face.

Around her neck was a gift from Prince Albert, the Ocean necklace, created just for her by Van Cleef & Arpels. The diamond and sapphire necklace, studded with 1,200 gems, converts to a tiara.

The Parisian jewelry maker has also designed a collection in honor of the princess and donated a set from that collection to the Red Cross for the Monaco ball.

One of the highlights of the Monaco social calendar, the Red Cross gala was attended by

610x (6)800 people including the princess' brother, Gareth Wittstock, and the prince's sisters, Princess Caroline of Hanover and Princess Stephanie.

The Sporting Club Monte Carlo was decorated in shades of hot pink, white and gold and shimmered in cascades of candlelight.

Guests were welcomed by a classical string section which performed elegant and enchanting music as they dined on the fine cuisine of the Sporting Club chefs.

As the roof of the Sporting Club was opened and the sky was shimmering in starlight, Rocker Joe Cocker performed a one hour set of his greatest hits including "You Can Leave You're Hat On", "I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends", "When the Night Comes" and "You Are So Beautiful".

Joe Cocker's set was followed up by a high-energy performance by Veronica Martell Entertainment who set the dance floor a-fire!  Guests danced the night away to Ms. Martell and her musicians into the wee hours of the morning.  The highlight of the Monaco social calendar, the Red Cross Gala is held annually in Monte Carlo and attended by royalty and celebrities alike.
